Bruxism is known to be as a parafunction activity of the jaw resulting in excessive grinding of the teeth.
Several symptoms are commonly associated with bruxism:
- Aching of the jaw, teeth and heard
- Aching of the joint
- Hipersensitivity, to hot and cold and sweet food
Causes for bruxism are yet to be discovered although stress seems to be the common factor in all of the patients. There are other factors such as:

Prevention and Higiene
1.- Choose the right tooth brush, we recommend soft bristles so you can access easily in between every tooth.
2.- Brush your teeth at least twice a day and every time you have eaten something.
3.- Have a good brushing technique, remember to brush all of the tooth sides.
4.- Choose a tooth paste that suits to your teeth necessities. There are several brands of tooth pastes with numerous indications such as whitening, fluoride free and against decay. If you have any doubts please ask us!
5.- Don not forget to brush your tongue since lot of harmful bacteria lives there and causes halitosis.
6.- Please floss, by doing this you will clean in between your teeth so that no food gets stuck there.
7.- Please mouthwash as the perfect complement to your oral hygiene, it will help you to prevent halitosis and refresh your mouth. Your teeth and gums will be thankful.
8.- Change every three months to a new tooth brush or you will not brush your teeth as you should because of the old bristles .
9.- If you happen to be pregnant you should extreme your oral hygiene and visit your dentist every two months and before getting pregnant. Take special care of your gums since the hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy affect them.
10.- Visit your dentist at least twice a year, prevention will keep you away from the dentist.
